Trump Said on NBC’s live program : We Will Work with Democrats on DREAMers Plan

President-elect Donald Trump, speaking on NBC's *Meet the Press*, addressed the future of DREAMers—immigrants brought to the U.S. unlawfully as children—indicating a willingness to work with Democrats on policies that might allow them to stay in the country.

Host Kristen Welker asked, "What about DREAMers who were brought to this country illegally as children? You said once in 2017 they shouldn’t be very worried about being deported. Should they be worried now?"

Trump responded, "The DREAMers are going to come later, and we have to do something about the DREAMers. These are people who were brought here at a very young age, and many are now middle-aged. They don’t even speak the language of their home countries. We will do something."

Welker inquired, "What does that mean?"

Trump replied, "I will work with the Democrats on a plan. However, the Democrats have made it very difficult to achieve anything. Republicans are open to addressing the issue of DREAMers. These are individuals who were brought into the country many years ago. Some are no longer young and, in many cases, have become successful. They have good jobs, some run small businesses, and others even manage large businesses. We need to find a solution for them."

Welker followed up, "Are you saying you want them to stay?"

Trump affirmed, "I do. I want to work something out. This issue should have been resolved over the past three or four years, but it wasn’t. Biden had the opportunity, especially with control of Congress to some extent, but nothing was done. I never understood why, as it always seemed like something they wanted to address. I believe we can work with the Democrats and come up with a solution."
